A group of horseback riders meandering through a vibrant, autumnal forest. This artwork uses soft pastel on linen to beautifully capture the changing colors of the season and the tranquil movement of the riders.
Wheeler crafts an idyllic scene filled with towering trees adorned in a fiery palette of fall colors—gold, orange, and red—contrasting sharply with the shadowed trail.
The vertical composition of the poplars draws the eye upward, emphasizing the height and majesty of the trees, while the riders and their horses are detailed in proportion, adding a sense of scale and life to the forest.
The soft pastels lend a gentle, almost dream-like quality to the image, with blended strokes that give movement to the leaves and dappling light on the path. The inclusion of a small dog trotting beside the riders adds an element of companionship and liveliness to the tranquil woods.
